Dallas ISD is hosting upcoming meetings to discuss the proposed bond. If approved, the bond proposal is not expected to raise tax rates and the bonds proceeds would fund several new schools and a variety of school and facility improvements that support academic programs. Dallas ISD’s James B. Bonham Elementary, which has been used for office space the past three years, is planned to reopen as a school in Fall 2016. The school would be the second district all-girls school and be a STEAM academy – emphasizing science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. When the slide declaring Harry Stone Montessori and IB World School as a National Blue Ribbon School appeared on the screen, the 6th-8th graders in the auditorium erupted in cheers and applause. Meanwhile, teachers and students over at Trinidad “Trini” Garza Early College High School at Mountain View College celebrated their school’s Blue Ribbon status by dancing with the school’s mascot and waving pom poms in the air. Students at Jack Lowe Sr. Elementary were all smiles last week as they received donated backpacks and school supplies from Kroger. Lowe Elementary students performed a skit, made handwritten signs, and showed off their new backpacks in appreciation of Kroger’s donation. Samantha Mason, a public affairs specialist with Kroger, said the students treated her, Norcona Doxey and Ryan Offield, both Kroger store managers, like celebrities. “I was tearing up as I was walking down the hallway, the students were so great,” Mason said. This year, as always, visitors to the State Fair have an almost overwhelming number of choices for food, entertainment and rides. Eric Hale, a third-grade math teacher at David G. Burnet Elementary, almost didn’t go through with the Distinguished Teacher Review process. Hale was originally excited about the DTR process, as he believed it would reveal his true effectiveness as a teacher. Plus, the opportunity for a DTR teacher to earn a $5,000 salary increase this school year wouldn’t hurt, either. The Leadership Circle award recognizes local governments across Texas with a high standard for financial transparency. On Saturday, Sept. 26, alumni celebrated Sunset High School’s 90th anniversary with a commemorative program, refreshments, and plenty of conversations remembering how the high school was way back when. The ceremony also celebrated the school’s historic designation from the City of Dallas and State of Texas. “No matter if you were a class in the ‘40s, a class in the ‘60s, like me, or the kids today, we just have a bond that makes us family,” said Carol Brown, who graduated Sunset in ’67. “I’m glad to come back to Sunset and see that bond still exists.” Watch the above…

Students at James Madison High School enjoyed a surprise motivational speaker on Monday afternoon: Clifford Joseph Harris Jr., the Platinum-selling rapper and actor better known as T.I.
