The 4th annual Cougars Running Wild 5K and 1-mile Fun Run is set for Saturday, Nov. 12, beginning and ending at Dallas ISD’s Bryan Adams High School. Besides promoting exercise and a healthy lifestyle, the event raises funds for the school’s PTSA to support students and teachers. Runners of all ages are invited and encouraged to participate. The Commercial Real Estate Women network, or CREW, hosted 64 Dallas ISD students in a mock development competition called CREW Careers. The competition is designed to provide high school girls an introduction into commercial real estate and the various job functions that support the industry. Prior to the competition, students went on a walking tour of the CityLine development in Richardson. At the competition, teams were assigned a property type and worked with CREW volunteers to develop a plan that would fit in with the CityLine Development. Watch the above video to learn more.

The Oncor Mayor’s Race 5K is set for Saturday, Dec. 10, starting at the base of Reunion Tower. Once again, Dallas ISD students and staff can participate at no cost if they sign up through their schools. Forms from schools must be received by Dallas ISD Health and PE by Nov. 11. Each participant will receive a free T-shirt, those who finish will receive a finisher medallion and no-cost bus rides will be available to and from the event. Early voting began on Oct. 24 and, already, some Dallas ISD students haven taken to the polls as a first-time voter. Students from Lincoln High School and Communications/Humanities Magnet received a standing ovation from poll workers as they cast their ballots at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center. The 10th Annual Junius Heights Home Tour will showcase six homes and also a tour of Dallas ISD’s Woodrow Wilson High School. The tour is set for 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6. In celebration of Halloween, the community of Anne Frank Elementary School united in one of the most creative events under the stars for the annual Trunk or Treat event. Twelve-year-old special guest Nashville singer Taylor Gayle opened the ceremony with an original song inspiring young students to write their own music. A hundred princesses and superheroes danced enthusiastically around her, eagerly awaiting the opening of the gates to the Trunk-or-Treat lot. On Friday, Oct. 28, students and staff at Ebby Halliday Elementary School joined with business and community volunteers to celebrate literacy at a special reading event in partnership with the Ebby Halliday Corporation. Volunteers from the Dallas Police Department, Dallas Public Library, a zoologist and Dallas ISD staff – along with fifth-graders – read books to classes. Students and staff dressed as their favorite storybook characters and in the afternoon, the day culminated with a parade to show off their creative costumes.
