The First Book Network in conjunction with Alliance has donated 40,000 brand new books to Dallas ISD. The books were dropped off in bulk at the Allen Field House. Volunteers then got hard at work organizing and sorting the books. Teachers, principals, and students who registered with the First Book Network for free were then able to come and pick up the donated books.

The NCAA is looking for girls between the ages of 10 and 14 who are not yet in high school to be the honorary ball kids at the 2017 NCAA Women’s Final Four games at the American Airlines Center March 31 and April 2, 2017. New data shows that Dallas ISD is retaining a strong majority of its highly effective teachers. The Teacher Excellence Initiative (TEI) identifies, supports and rewards effective teaching. There are seven current effectiveness levels under TEI: Unsatisfactory, No Level, Progressing I and II, Proficient I, II, and III, and Exemplary I and II. Data shows that the teachers who earned a 2016-2017 effectiveness level of Proficient II or above, 93 percent were still with the district as of Sept. 1. Tony Benedetto dice que se siente honrado y bendecido de haber sido nombrado como maestro del año de secundarias de Dallas ISD. Benedetto, quien enseña biología en H. Grady Spruce High School, tiene varios familiares que también trabajan en el campo de la educación. “Supongo que está en nuestra sangre, enseñarles a los niños, entrenarlos y tener un impacto positivo en los que nos rodean”, dijo Benedetto. A pesar de que no habrá clases durante el receso de invierno, algunos planteles de Dallas ISD continuarán ofreciendo desayuno y almuerzo a los estudiantes. Los alimentos son gratuitos para cualquier estudiante menor de 18 años.
