Trustee Lew Blackburn makes an all-star difference in District 5. Elected to the board in June of 2001, Blackburn leads his district of Oak Lawn, West Dallas, Wilmer, Hutchins and portions of East Oak Cliff. Blackburn was born in Fort Worth, where he attended elementary school. After moving to Dallas, he attended Oliver Wendell Holmes Middle School and graduated from Franklin D. Roosevelt High School. Sprint donated free mobile devices and free high-speed wireless Internet connectivity to about 250 students at Emmet J. Conrad High School on Jan. 13. Ya pueden presentar su solicitud los estudiantes de octavo grado que estén interesados en asistir a una de las academias universitarias de Dallas ISD. Los alumnos que asisten a una academia universitaria pueden obtener hasta 60 horas de crédito universitario o un grado asociado, sin costo alguno, al mismo tiempo que estudian para obtener su diploma de preparatoria. The application window is open for current eighth-graders interested in attending a Dallas ISD collegiate academy. Students who attend a collegiate academy can earn up to 60 hours of college credit or an associate degree—at no cost to them—concurrently while earning a high school diploma. Dallas ISD launched seven collegiate academies and a P-TECH at existing high schools this school year. Elected to the board in May of 2016, this graduate of Skyline High School represents Southeast Dallas, Seagoville and Balch Springs. Resendez is a U.S. Army combat veteran and attorney licensed to practice law by the State Bar of Texas and before the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Texas. She competed alongside seven other finalists at The Majestic Theatre. Jace Roberson, a fifth-grader at J.P. Starks Math, Science and Technology Vanguard, took second place.
