Sixty-two seniors in Dallas ISD’s Class of 2017 were recognized on Tuesday, April 18, as recipients of the Superintendent’s Scholarship. Each honoree received $2,500 to go toward costs at the college or university of their choice. Selection for the Superintendent’s Scholarship Program is based on need, character, grades, recommendations and the promise of future success. The scholarships are administered by the Dallas Education Foundation and funded with proceeds from the annual Superintendent’s Golf Tournament. Dallas ISD’s William L. Cabell Elementary School celebrated its transformation into a Personalized Learning campus on Wednesday, April 19. Parents, community members, district staff and representatives from organizations involved in the project attended the event, which included a campus tour after songs performed by fifth-graders and a ceremonial ribbon cutting. The physical structure of the school has changed to accommodate the different style of learning, which focuses on the education of individual students. The Dallas Independent School District’s (Dallas ISD) Multiple Careers Magnet Center (MCMC) is hosting its annual Spring Plant Sale, Wednesday, April 19, and Thursday, April 20. For 21 years, Dallas ISD has been in partnership with the Dallas County Master Gardener Association, Inc., which helps run the magnet school’s garden. The plant sale is open to the public. Students at MCMC who help maintain the greenhouse garden will benefit from the fundraiser that will help purchase various garden supplies. MCMC serves students with special needs. On Tuesday, April 18, the Career Education and Workforce Partnerships Department hosted the Dallas ISD NAF Senior Recognition Ceremony. The ceremony honored seniors who have completed a program of study in a NAF academy and demonstrated academic excellence in Dallas ISD’s Career and Technical Education programs. An all-girl robotics team from Sunset High School is the first ever Dallas ISD team to qualify for the Robotics World Championships in FTC. Sunset’s 8811 Robo* Bison Amistad team is competing in this week’s World Championship in FTC in Houston. Campus staff at the seven existing ACE campuses celebrated the academic gains they have made this school year as well as the addition of six more district schools to the program at a recent mixer. ACE – Accelerating Campus Excellence – accelerates school transformation through three primary factors: strong school leadership, effective teachers, and high expectations for both students and staff. More than 80 fourth-graders and their teachers from Mata Montessori school visited the Capitol in Austin last Thursday, thanks to an almost $3,000 grant from the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers (DAYL) that provided transportation. The fourth-graders started the day with a scavenger hunt on the Capitol grounds, then toured the Capitol building.
