A recent Dallas Independent School (Dallas ISD) graduate Caleb Myers, was selected by the Council of the Great City Schools (CGCS) to receive the 2017 ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Math and Science Scholarship. Myers was one of four students chosen from several hundred applicants in big-city school districts across the nation for academic performance, leadership qualities and community involvement. Thirty-one Class of 2017 Dallas ISD graduating seniors were recognized this month at a special reception for receiving United Negro College Fund (UNCF) scholarships. Funds for the UNCF scholarships were raised through Dallas ISD employee donations. Money was collected by feeder pattern, making it a friendly competition to benefit the most students. Recognizing the importance of public education, the Greenville Avenue Area Business Association (GAABA) continues its support of the following high schools: Emmett J. The school year might be over, but several Hillcrest High School students still have great memories of prom thanks to Salon Pompeo. Salon Pompeo provided six well-deserving students with free hair care (blow outs/updos for girls, boys clipped and styled), nails and make up services—along with a rental dress or tuxedo—for the school prom on May 13. Dustin Marshall won reelection to the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees in the runoff election held June 10. Marshall represents District 2, which covers North and Near East Dallas. Marshall ran against Lori Kirkpatrick in the runoff election. Neither candidate received at least 50 percent of the vote on May 6, which caused the June runoff election.
