Dallas ISD announced today the 2016 Campus Teachers of the Year. Each campus selected its Teacher of the Year based on demonstrated excellence in and out of the classroom. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) recently released a list of Title I schools designated as high-performing, which includes 14 in Dallas ISD. A Title I school is one with a high percentage of children from low-income families. Such campuses receive federal funding to help ensure that all children, regardless of family income, meet state academic standards. The high-performance schools on the list have earned distinctions based on student reading and math performance. For high schools on the list, a high graduation rate is also considered. The early morning rain couldn’t put a damper on the Big Dig at John H. Reagan Elementary as more than 200 volunteers from Sprouts and AT&T tramped through the mud to create a REAL School Garden at the small Oak Cliff campus. Students got in on the act finishing up artwork and decorating colorful flagstone pavers that will lead students to hours of outdoor learning and exploration. Nathan Adams and Tom C. Gooch elementary schools played host to a special visitor on Thursday, Nov. 3, to spotlight both schools’ top readers in the Speeding to Read incentive program sponsored by Texas Motor Speedway. NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Kyle Larson stopped by to talk a little bit about reading and help recognize students who had read the most books in the program. The Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD) will host a districtwide showcase of school offerings with representatives from all 228 district schools, at the Discover Dallas ISD Fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3. This first-ever event will highlight academic choices from prekindergarten, single-gender and magnet schools to collegiate academies, STEM and STEAM schools and neighborhood schools that offer students a close-knit family-like environment with rigorous academic instruction. El Dallas ISD ha iniciado un programa piloto que permite a escuelas tomar pagos con tarjeta de crédito, débito o “e-check”, cheque en línea, para pagar por los gastos escolares, desde las excursiones hasta las cuotas.
