Through a partnership between Dallas ISD and the Dallas County Community College District, collegiate academies provide the opportunity for students to earn up to 60 hours of college credit or an associate degree while earning a high school diploma — at no cost to their families. In addition to seven traditional Early College High Schools, Dallas ISD’s collegiate academy program now includes 18 Pathway to Technology Early College High Schools or P-TECHs, each of which has higher education and career industry partners. Two-Way Dual Language programs teach students to read, write and speak in two languages. Two-Way Dual Language instruction is currently offered at 51 Dallas ISD elementary schools, four middle schools and one high school. Sam’s Club donated $252,000 to support STEAM education in Dallas ISD on Jan. 7, with funds going to three schools and the STEM Department. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics and points to a focus on providing experiences in each discipline as they relate to real-world careers. Sam’s Club donated $100,000 to the Innovation, Design, Entrepreneurship Academy; $60,000 each to Solar Preparatory for Girls and Solar Preparatory for Boys; and $32,000 to the district’s STEM Department. Dallas ISD’s annual STEM Expo will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. Join us for the largest STEM Expo in Texas featuring more than 140 hands-on exhibits and showcases of the Dallas ISD STEM championships in mathematics, science, robotics, technology and bridge-building. Visitors will interact with field experts, community members, educators, industry partners and STEM organizations.
