Voters have reelected Justin Henry to continue serving on the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees. Unofficial results from the May 1 election show Henry received 75.96 percent of the vote and Ulana Sigler received 24.04 percent of the vote in the race for District 9, which serves South Dallas and parts of Downtown Dallas, Pleasant Grove, Deep Ellum, Uptown and East Dallas. Henry, who was originally elected as a trustee in June 2018, currently serves as the board president.

Sixth-grade student Kayla Clemmons already knows what it’s like to run a business. She studies at Young Women’s STEAM Academy at Balch Springs Middle School (YWSA), plays softball for the Lady Jags and manages her own design company during her free time. “I see my classmates buying $45 shirts, and I tell them: ‘you can come to me and I’ll make it for $20, and I can make it better!’” Clemmons said. Peter Morrissey, a 17-year educator in Dallas, teaches general education and English as a Second Language at Alex Sanger Preparatory School. A graduate of Texas State University, he works with teachers and the community to ensure that his campus provides a variety of co-curricular and extracurricular activities for all students. Yonathan Tadesse, who teaches algebra and college transition to 10th and 11th graders at Judge Barefoot Sanders Law Magnet, has been a pioneer in many new campus and district initiatives, serving as math chair and leading the first Link Crew program, which aims to increase attendance, decrease discipline referrals and improve academic performance.
