The safety of our students and staff is our top priority, and the district has taken several steps to ensure schools are safe learning environments. Starting in the 2022-2023 school year, students in sixth through 12th grade will be required to use clear or mesh backpacks. Other bags will no longer be allowed. Students will be able to carry in their backpack a non-clear pouch no larger than 5.5 inches by 8.5 inches to hold personal items, such as cellphones, money, and hygiene products. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) announced their final list of awardees, which includes four Dallas ISD seniors. The NMSC, a not-for-profit corporation focused on recognizing and honoring the academically talented students of the United States, announced a group of winners of the 2022 National Merit Scholars on July 11. The four students are among 7,200 distinguished high school graduates who will receive scholarships for undergraduate study from sponsor colleges. Dr. Michael Hinojosa will be inducted into the fifth class of the Dallas ISD Athletic Hall of Fame along with six other impressive individuals who have made significant contributions to the district’s athletics programs.
