Seagoville High School finished the day strong during the Region 12 Academic Decathlon and will join the School of Science and Engineering to represent the district at the state competition Feb. 26 to March 1, in San Antonio. Harry Stone Montessori Academy and Trinidad “Trini” Garza Early College High School are among 26 Texas schools nominated as a 2015 National Blue Ribbon School. The prestigious award, a program of the U.S. Department of Education, recognizes exemplary schools where students are performing at high levels. Former Woodrow Wilson High School football player (Class of ’84) and Heisman Trophy winner (’87) Tim Brown was elected to the NFL Hall of Fame over the weekend. Brown also made history once again, as the first Dallas ISD to be elected to elite club. The announcement sparked conversations among many of his fans, including some of his No. 1 fans – his family. The Future Facilities Task Force will discuss the next step in planning for the coming needs of Dallas ISD during its meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at the district administrative building, 3700 Ross Ave., Dallas, TX. The task force will receive a report from Jim Terry, Dallas ISD chief financial officer, about potential financing options to meet current and future needs based on the district’s growing enrollment and program changes. The task force will also receive an overview on attendance zones and potential approaches to relieving overcrowding.

In search of a collaborative solution, a mix of 22 principals, teachers and parents opened a discussion on improving the Assessment of Course Performance, or ACP, exams during an initial meeting on Jan. 28. With support from Superintendent Mike Miles, the ACP Task Force is charged with exploring ways to improve the testing process for so-called specials courses (art, music and physical education) for students in grades 3-5.
