The transfer process is a common practice at schools across the country and emphasizes placing teachers where they are most needed. Trista Hopkins, a cafeteria worker at Edward H. Cary Middle School and U.S. Army veteran, was proceeding through a normal workday on Sept. 24 at the school when the non-profit Rebuilding Together Greater Dallas surprised her with the announcement that she is the latest beneficiary of its Homes 4 Heroes program.   As a result, Hopkins’ two-bedroom home is going to be completely remodeled and rebuilt. It can be challenging to wrap your head around the complex issue of domestic violence — why perpetrators batter their partners, why some victims remain in violent relationships and what society can do to address the issue. Through Operation Comeback, Dallas ISD’s student-recovery initiative, district staff joined with community volunteers to visit the homes of students who have not attended school all year to encourage them to return to class. Though a recent media report suggested otherwise, schools in the Dallas Independent School District continue to have access to a high-speed wide area network unsurpassed by any school district in the country. The Superior Achievement rating is the state’s highest, demonstrating the quality of Dallas ISD’s financial management and reporting system.
