Five new temperature scanners, which measure a student’s temperature, are being placed in each of Dallas ISD’s “watch” schools. Those are the campuses where students were identified as having been exposed to the sole U.S. Ebola patient. Monday, Oct. 6 is Child Health Day, a day dedicated to promoting the importance of providing healthy lifestyles for children in the U.S.  In conjunction with Child Health Day, the Health & Physical Education and Educational Technology departments are preparing to launch a virtual site for homebound students. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Dallas ISD students are helping to do their part. For the second year, students at Zan Wesley Holmes Jr. Middle School will spend the next few weeks decorating pumpkins to donate to the Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure. For their efforts, the students are scheduled to be recognized by KDFW’s Clarice Tinsley as Hometown Heroes on Ch. 4, at 5 p.m., Monday, Oct. 6.  The pumpkins will be decorated using colorful beads, rhinestones, ribbons and other embellishments and delivered to North Park on Oct. 16 to adorn the survivors’ tent at…

Four Dallas ISD schools have been named 2014 National Blue Ribbon Schools. The announcement was made today by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, who recognized 337 schools across the nation for their academic excellence or for making exemplary progress in closing the achievement gap.
