Each November, Dallas ISD employees join with United Way of Metropolitan Dallas to positively impact families across the area by participating in an employee giving campaign. Through payroll deductions or one-time donations, employees help support programs that make a difference in the lives of parents and children by providing much-needed assistance that can be life-changing. WFAA-TV Channel 8 spent a few moments with members of the Sunset High School Bisonettes drill team, as they turn to the community to help raise funds for an upcoming performance in Hawaii. The 27 member squad has been invited to perform during the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade, Dec. 7. See view that broadcast, click here. Spurred by a strong response from the community, the Dallas Independent School District will extend the deadline for its Public School Choice Community Survey through midnight Wednesday, Nov. 12. More than 3,000 responses have been received in the last month about potential choice schools and programs through a survey offered by the Dallas Independent School District. District 9-6A was a fight to the finish with two Dallas ISD fighting to live another day in the transition to playoff action. Skyline and W.T. At the age of 14, Luis Juarez never imagined he would be a teacher in the United States. Having just arrived to the country, learning a new language and entering a new school, Juarez admits, “the odds were against me.” Throughout the years, Juarez found his momentum. With the support of dedicated teachers graduated from W.T. White High School, went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin and now teaches bilingual math and science at William Lipscomb Elementary. This school year, the Dallas Independent School District is piloting a program to ensure more than 3,000 special education students travel on the right bus to the right location, every time. The new Dallas Pass, also known as D-Pass for short, program is specifically geared toward students with disabilities who receive transportation services via special education bus routes. Each student is provided a specially designed electronic card that will be scanned by a card reader as they enter or exit the school bus. Woodrow Wilson High School’s RoboCats competed in the Dallas BEST Regional Robotics Competition, Oct. 18 at Eastfield College.
