Under Destination 2020, Dallas ISD is committed to ensuring students are college ready when they graduate. It’s a good bet the 29 J.N. Ervin Elementary students who toured the new Highland Hills Library on Monday had heard more than once how important it is to visit the library. But after receiving a private tour of the $5 million dollar facility, complete with refreshments, and leaving their handprints in cement at the front door, that message probably resonates as never before. North Dallas High School Bulldog Luis Chapparo was featured on NBC’s Today show during the segment “Together We Make Football.” NBC Sports reporter, Josh Elliott, spoke live for Today from AT&T Stadium. This week’s segment profiles Chapparo, an all-district kicker and punter for North Dallas. When he was a sophomore, his brother Daniel began teaching him the mechanics of the position. The Dallas Independent School District was well-represented at the recent Alliance for a Healthier Generation 2014 Leaders Summit. James Bowie Elementary School achieved the Gold National Healthy Schools Award, one of only six awarded this year nationally, and the only one given to a Texas school. The Dallas Environmental Science Academy and Edward Titche Elementary School both earned Silver National Healthy Schools Awards, with only three going to Texas schools and 34 awarded overall.
