Week three of Texas UIL football playoff action sees an undefeated Skyline High School Raider team advance from the 6A Division I-Region II Area matchup against Belton in a 49-7 victory at the Waco ISD Stadium Saturday afternoon. Frank Johnson Jr. thought his lunch period on Friday, Nov. 21, at Dallas ISD’s Harry Stone Montessori would be uneventful. But by the time the student got his tray of food and sat down, he knew something was up because of all the cameras pointed at him. That’s about the same time his father Frank Johnson Sr., who just retired as a U.S. Army Master Sergeant, walked into the cafeteria. The C.A. Tatum Jr. Elementary School Titans are celebrating Thanksgiving by fighting hunger. A canned-food drive sponsored by the school’s Character Education Club yielded 779 pounds of food recently donated to the North Texas Food Bank. Tatum Counselor and club sponsor Katrina Woods worked alongside students in their mission to help others. Thanking the students for their donation, a spokeswoman for North Texas Food Bank estimated the donation would help provide access to 649 meals for chronically hungry children, families and seniors in North Texas. Dallas ISD is committed to involving those for whom the Teacher Excellence Initiative was designed – the teacher. Also known as TEI, the plan is the district’s new system to identify, support and strategically compensate effective teachers. During its development, the plan received a high level of interest and teachers were given the opportunity to have an active voice in the process. Teachers such as Jacqueline Martinez asked her fellow educators to give the system a chance. Now that the plan is in full motion, teachers continue to play an active role. She is a proud graduate of the Bryan Adams High School, Class of 1984. She also attended George W. Truett Elementary School and W.H. Gaston Middle School.
