The 56th Class Reunion Committee of the James Madison High School Class of 1966 recently held a fundraiser to support students in the 2022 graduating class who are seeking higher education. Principal Marian Willard recommended two seniors for the coveted scholarships, based on need and academic achievement. Olive Niyintunze was awarded a $1,000 scholarship, and Brandon Patterson was awarded a $750 scholarship.
The JMHS Class of 1966 is celebrating its 56th anniversary. Carolyn Hughes Mitchell, the reunion committee chairwoman, has led the class in staying organized and doing positive things to uplift the community, especially by supporting young people in Dallas. Graduates of the Class of 1966 have become educators, lawyers, business owners, community leaders, corporate managers, and religious leaders. They want to keep alive their legacy of excellence by supporting new graduates with scholarships.
Olive Niyintunze and Brandon Patterson are planning careers in the fields of Business Administration and Business Marketing. Olive will attend Texas Woman’s University, and Brandon plans to attend the University of North Texas. The scholarship funds will help them with application fees, books, and transportation fees. The JMHS Class of 1966 wants to serve as role models, boosters, and champions of higher education for the students at James Madison High School.
As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”
The Class of 1966 of the Great James Madison High School wants to be a part of the lives of graduating students to help them get a true education as Dr. King envisioned.
