Scholastic book packs mailed to students to help build libraries at home

Dallas ISD elementary students will be receiving Scholastic book packs containing books and other activities, shipped directly to their homes beginning this week. All Pre-K to 6th grade students at elementary campuses will be receiving the book packs.

The district wants to make sure students have access to quality books year-round and can share their reading experiences with their families.

“When families read and discuss books together, the joy of reading comes alive for our students. We are so thrilled that our students will be able to continue reading throughout the summer with their families,” said Jennifer Burchfiel, Director of Instructional Strategy, Early Learning.

“Building libraries at home will be key to reducing the slowdown of reading among students who are at a critical age of building a strong foundation that will lead them to academic success,” Burchfiel said.

Parents and students should look for the book packs in the mail in the coming days, and show us how they’re reading at home by uploading their pictures or videos to social media using the hashtag: #DallasISDReads.
