In celebration of School Board Recognition Month, we are spotlighting the nine dedicated unpaid volunteers who serve as Dallas ISD trustees.
Dan Micciche was first elected to the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees in 2012 to serve District 3, which covers Northeast Dallas. Voters reelected him in 2015 and 2018, and he currently serves as 1st Vice President.
In addition to serving as a trustee, Micciche is a partner at the law firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld. He started and chaired his firm’s School Partnership Program with James W. Fannin Elementary School in Dallas from 2005 to 2012. The program won the State Board of Education’s gold level award for community partnerships in 2011. Micciche received the “No Kid Hungry” Award from Share Our Strength in 2014 and “The Closing the Gap” Award from Leadership ISD in 2017.
Micciche’s civic and charitable activities include serving on the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross Dallas; former vice chair of Texas C-BAR (Community Building through Attorney Resources), a pro bono organization; and a former board of directors member of the American Foundation for the Blind-Southwest Region. He previously served on the School Finance Task Force of the Greater Dallas Chamber.
In 2006, Micciche received the firm’s first Partner Recognition Award for his mentoring of counsel and associates and the firm’s Pro Bono Partner of the Year Award. In 2010, he became the 11th lawyer inducted into Akin Gump’s “Pro Bono and Public Service Hall of Fame” based on his contributions to pro bono and community service throughout his legal career.
