With a strong showing in math events, Science and Engineering students lead in the overall championship points at the Conference 6A Region 1 UIL Academic Competition that was held at the University of Texas at Arlington on April 12-13.
At the competition, Pranay Varada qualified to compete at the UIL Academic State Meet in three events by placing first in Calculator Applications; second in Number Sense; and first in Spelling and Vocabulary. Also, he placed fifth in Mathematics. Joining Varada and representing SEM at the state meet will be Victor Diaz who placed third place in both Calculator Applications and Mathematics along with Arjun Vikram who took third place in Computer Science.
The Talented and Gifted Computer Science Team advanced to the state competition by placing first overall. Team members Avi Verma and Hayden Allen individually placed first and second respectively, qualifying for the state meet.
Hillcrest High student Janeth Mendoza qualified for the state meet by placing second in Ready Writing at the Conference 4A Region 2 UIL Academic Competition held at Texas A&M University-Commerce.
