The Dual Language Scholar Award was given to Rosemont International Language Preparatory School students who completed the Secondary Dual Language Program at a special ceremony on June 1.

The students were recognized for completing rigorous academic courses in both English and Spanish for three consecutive years. They now have the opportunity to continue the Dual Language Program in high school. Upon successfully completing the high school Dual Language program, they will earn the Seal of Biliteracy on their diplomas, which denotes students who attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation.

“Four years ago, we began implementing the Dual Language Program in J.L. Long,” said Cloris Rangel, director of Dallas ISD’s Dual Language Program. “Today, 60 students, in the district’s Dual Language Secondary Program, are graduating eighth grade.”

Middle schools participating in the Secondary Dual Language Program include: Alex Sanger Preparatory, Rosemont International Language Preparatory, E.D. Walker and J.L. Long. Currently, Sunset High School offers a Secondary DL Program in ninth and 10th grades.  Looking ahead, W.T. White and Woodrow Wilson High School will launch their DL programs in 2017-2018 and Bryan Adams High School will launch one in 2018-2019.
