Important dates in the 2016-2017 school year

Under the 2016–2017 district calendar approved by trustees in December, next school year will begin Aug. 22 2016, and end June 1, 2017, and include a full week off for Thanksgiving break.

District administration recommended the proposed calendar based on input from administrators, teachers, parents, and students. Click here to see survey results reflecting the opinions of members of the public and district employees about the best dates for winter break, inclement weather makeup days, and early release days for next school year.  

Below are some of the key dates of the approved calendar, which includes 175 days of instruction, seven professional development days, and four teacher preparation workdays:

School start date: Aug. 22, 2016

School end date: June 1, 2017

Elementary Fair Day: Oct. 14, 2016

Secondary Fair Day: Oct. 21, 2016

Thanksgiving Break: Nov. 21 – 25, 2016

Winter Break: Dec. 23, 2016 – Jan. 6, 2017

Teacher Preparation Day: Jan. 9, 2017

Spring Break: March 13 – 17, 2017

Inclement Weather Make Up Days: April 14 and 17, 2017

Staff/Student Holidays: Sept. 5, 2016, Jan. 16, 2017 and May 29, 2017
