The Dallas Independent School District will offer full day, tuition-based pre-K beginning fall 2016. The program will be held at select elementary campuses during the program’s pilot year. Registration began Monday, July 11, and is open to students who will turn 4-years-old by September 1, 2016.
Dallas ISD Board of Trustees approved this measure at the June board meeting. During the meeting, trustees set a tuition rate of $700 per month. Students must live within the district boundaries and may attend any of the designated sites.
“Dallas ISD is proud to offer more families access to our high-quality pre-K program,” said Derek Little, assistant superintendent of Early Learning. “Families who previously could not choose Dallas ISD for pre-K can now do so, at a competitive price.”
The initial program will be offered at five sites, with the hopes of expansion in the coming years. The pilot locations are: Nathan Adams, Arthur Kramer, Robert E. Lee, Ben Milam and Walnut Hill elementary schools.
In addition to other areas of educational development, the paid pre-K option will provide students access to bilingual and immersion opportunities.
“Participating students will have the benefit of being a member of a classroom community that focuses on social-emotional, as well as, academic development led by a certified teacher,” said Little.
Registration is on a first come, first serve basis from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday at the Early Childhood offices, located at 3313 S. Beckley Ave., Dallas, TX 75224.
