Board President Lew Blackburn shares end of school message

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank you, and congratulations! Another successful school year is in the rear view mirror and I know that all the students and teachers of Dallas ISD are ready for some well-deserved rest and relaxation. There have been so many great accomplishments in the district this year and, along with my fellow trustees, I am proud of our students and staff.

Thank you to all our teachers and campus staff for educating our students. You have been with our students every day. Thank you to all of our parents for supporting our students at home. And thank you to all of our students, as we work towards our vision of making Dallas ISD one of the greatest urban school districts in the nation!

Summertime in Dallas ISD is a chance for teachers and students to take a well-deserved break from the intensity of lesson plans, studying and testing that make up the school year. But the district doesn’t shut down, and exciting opportunities can be found across the area to keep students engaged throughout the break. I encourage all Dallas ISD families to explore the options available through Dallas City of Learning, a partnership with the City of Dallas and other area nonprofits.

You can also contact your local campus to find out what programs will be offered. Campus libraries are open over the summer, giving students access to an abundance of reading materials.

The summer is upon us. Have fun and be safe. Enjoy!
