Multiple Careers Magnet plant sale backed by gardener association

Students who help maintain the Multiple Careers Magnet Center’s greenhouse garden will host their annual Spring Plant Sale, Wednesday, April 20 and Thursday, April 21. The Dallas Independent School District has been in partnership, now in its 20th year, with the Dallas County Master County Gardener Association, Inc. who helps run the magnet school’s garden.

This year the plant sale will include herbs, perennials and vegetables to be sold. The gardener association will then donate all proceeds from the sale back to the garden. Money will also be used to purchase garden supplies, like, soil, plants and other items needed for the 2016-2017 school year.

“Our kids really enjoy the plants,” said Janice Evans, librarian at the Multiple Careers Magnet Center. “Because of the donations, each year the master gardeners make some type of improvement to the garden.”

In the past, additions such as providing raised boxes where the plants are housed created an ease of use for students with disabilities. The association oversees the growth of the garden throughout the school year, with the help of students.

The event is expected to raise about $2,000.

The fundraiser will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 20 and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, April 21 at the Multiple Careers Magnet Center, 4525 Rusk Ave., Dallas, TX 75204.
