An independently conducted survey shows that nearly 81 percent of Dallas ISD parents agree or strongly agree with the direction of the district.
The survey results show a notable increase from the Spring 2014 survey results, when 70 percent of parents said they agreed or strongly agreed with the direction of the district.
More than 18,000 parents responded to the survey conducted by National Service Research, which is based in Fort Worth. Paula Blackmon, Dallas ISD senior executive for intergovernmental relations and community engagement, said the survey is a part of the district’s effort to engage parents and gather their feedback on the district and their child’s school.
“We are happy to see so many parents participating in the survey and we value their input,” Blackmon said. “Parents play a significant role in the success of their students and the district, so it’s encouraging to see such strong support for the district.”
Other results from the Spring 2015 Parent Survey include:
- 89 percent of parents said they believe what their child learned this year is what is needed to be ready for the next grade, compared to 83 percent in Spring 2014;
- 87 percent of parents said their child’s school has a respectful learning environment, compared to 80 percent in Spring 2014;
- 86 percent of parents said they are satisfied with the direction and the success of their child’s school, up from 78 percent in Spring 2014;
The survey also asked parents for input on the district’s parental involvement funds and their preferred method for providing input regarding their child’s school and the district.

The survey was a part of a broader effort by the Dallas ISD Office of Family and Community Engagement (OFCE) to give parents the tools and information necessary to be more engaged in their children’s education. OFCE this year offered more Parent Resource and Empowerment Program (PREP) University classes, which equip parents to support their students’ academic, physical, social, emotional and behavioral needs. This school year, total attendance for PREP University events was 8,345, compared to 3,213 the previous year.
Direct communication to parents also increased through the addition of the bilingual Proud Dallas ISD Parent Facebook page and a bilingual monthly newsletter emailed to parents.
The parent survey follows the recent results from a student survey that showed a strong majority of students said their teacher encouraged them to do their best and a teacher survey that showed a notable increase in the percentage of campus-based employees believe the district is headed in the right direction.
