District terminates employment of director of transportation services

This afternoon, Dallas ISD terminated the employment of Jessie Lovelace, recently hired director of transportation services, as a result of information that has come to light since his hiring last month.

“I take responsibility for the recent employment decision made for the director of transportation services,” said Wanda Paul, chief of operations. “We will learn from this incident, and work with Human Capital Management to strengthen our department’s hiring processes. We don’t want these types of incidents to distract from the work of the district.”

Superintendent Mike Miles has asked Chief of Human Capital Management Karry Chapman to work with the heads of every department to strengthen procedures to ensure these types of incidences are minimized in the future.

“While we have hired a number of excellent employees in our Operations Department and this district,” Miles said, “this particular hire does not support the culture of professionalism and excellence that we are trying to build. We can do better.”

The district will begin a search immediately to fill this important role.
