As part of the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas Stock the School event, presented by Mr. Cooper, volunteers visited Cedar Crest Elementary School Aug. 10 to collect and stock essential learning supplies and provide a facelift to the facilities. United Way volunteers stuffed dozens of classroom kits with much-needed supplies, including composition notebooks, folders, markers and pencils, before the first day of school on Aug. 19. In addition to sorting donated supplies, more than 100 volunteers worked to revitalize areas of the school to create a re-energized, positive learning environment. Advanced Academic Services sponsored the first Dallas ISD Advanced Placement Summer Boot Camp on July 29. The AP Boot Camp provided support and resources to Dallas ISD students who are taking an AP course for the first time. Through the boot camp, students gained exposure to AP-level coursework and developed skills needed to complete an AP class successfully. Students were engaged in experiences that encouraged teamwork and fostered communication, organization, critical reading, writing, and problem-solving skills. The Office of Transformation and Innovation (OTI) is excited to formally announce the release of the Public School Choice (PSC) Competitive Proposal Process, Version 6.0. The Public School Choice is a competitive proposal process where educators create high-quality, best-fit options for Dallas ISD students to realize their full academic potential. Currently, there are 34 new Choice schools ranging from those that anchor teaching and learning under a Leadership model to schools driven by a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) framework. Texas state law requires students to be fully vaccinated against specified diseases by the first day of school, which in Dallas ISD is Monday, Aug. 19. That means now is the perfect time to avoid the long lines of the back-to-school rush at clinics and medical facilities across the city. Students enrolling in Dallas ISD for the first time must provide proof of the required immunizations in the form of official records from a physician or health clinic.
