On Friday, Aug. 23, students from seven Dallas ISD elementary schools celebrated a donation of uniforms to their schools by Pat and Emmitt Smith Charities and JCPenney with a pep rally-style event at Ellis Davis Field House. Frederick Douglass Elementary, Julian T. Saldivar Elementary, David G. Burnet Elementary, Joseph J. Rhoads Elementary, J. P. Starks Elementary, Whitney M. Young Elementary, and Lee A. McShan Elementary School were among campuses that together received a total of 3,000 donated uniforms. Dallas Independent School District Athletic Hall of Fame recognizes and honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the district’s storied high school athletic programs. Nominations for the Dallas ISD Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2020 open today.  All nominations must be received by Sept. 21. Individuals may be nominated in one of three categories: Past Dallas ISD Student Athlete; Former Dallas ISD Coach; and Contributors. As part of the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas Stock the School event, presented by Mr. Cooper, volunteers visited Cedar Crest Elementary School Aug. 10 to collect and stock essential learning supplies and provide a facelift to the facilities. United Way volunteers stuffed dozens of classroom kits with much-needed supplies, including composition notebooks, folders, markers and pencils, before the first day of school on Aug. 19. In addition to sorting donated supplies, more than 100 volunteers worked to revitalize areas of the school to create a re-energized, positive learning environment.
