Dallas ISD Racial Equity Office and Centralized Enrollment are hosting a series of Application Workshops at area libraries for families interested in applying to the district’s specialty schools. The first workshop was held Jan. 8 at the Dallas West Library. More than 20 families came out to learn more about the many options available at the district’s magnet and other application-based programs. As he presented a $100,000 check donation to the Dallas Education Foundation to support Dallas ISD schools impacted by the Oct. 20 tornado, John Trevino, the vice president and general manager of KDAF-TV (CW-33), remarked how this donation was especially close to his heart. Dallas ISD’s Attendance Improvement and Truancy Reduction celebrated Attendance Awareness Month with a contest. The ”Show Up” campaign urged students to have no more than five absences each school year. The contest challenged schools to have the best overall attendance and have as many of their students have perfect attendance for the month of September. Most of the time when you think of going to court it is in a negative situation, but for seventh-grade social studies students at Hill Middle School, their view may have changed on Dec. 6. The students were able to ask questions to judges and attorneys from the Dallas Bar Association in a kickoff program to teach students about the Texas court system. The program is called The Taming Texas Judicial Civics and History Project.
