Advanced Placement Boot Camp, which is an Advanced Academic Services initiative, was held virtually Aug. 3–5 and boasted attendance of more than 100 AP students. Representing various campuses, AP students attended daily Zoom sessions to get a jump start in AP Biology, AP Calculus AB, AP English Language, and AP Human Geography courses. The virtual boot camp provided support and resources to Dallas ISD students taking their first Advanced Placement course. In the Dallas ISD distance learning model, students and parents can expect an established daily routine that will present both guided learning and independent learning opportunities.  Guided learning will be presented through a variety of options such as: Teacher-directed lessons via video conferencing. Teacher-led small group instruction or individual support via video conferencing. Office hours or tutoring sessions via video conferencing or prerecorded instructional videos that provide direct teacher support for online learning. Dallas ISD is recruiting volunteers to help the Technology Department distribute computers to elementary school students starting Monday, Aug. 17. Two shifts are available: 8–11 a.m. and 12–5 p.m. To receive clearance to volunteer, you must register at dallasisd.voly.org via Chrome, Firefox or Edge per the following instructions: Complete the appropriate General volunteer application. Select the desired elementary school(s) for which you want to volunteer. Complete the online orientation (include an e-signature to confirm completion).
