The Dallas Regional Chamber (DRC) today announced that Emmitt Smith will serve as the chief spokesman of its campaign to connect workers displaced by the COVID-19 crisis to thousands of available jobs in the Dallas Region. The NFL All-Time Rushing leader, who is also a DRC board member, will appear on billboards and in radio, television, and social media marketing for the DRC’s “Connecting Displaced Workers to Jobs” platform. Both Community Based Testing Sites (CBTS) will open the criteria to include testing for no symptoms required for first responders, DART drivers, healthcare workers, grocery store and essential retail store workers beginning April 20. Trustees have approved a contract with the builder Ratcliff Constructors to build the new H.S. Thompson Elementary School on the site of the previous school on Bexar St. in Bonton. Plans call for a two-story, 85,000 square foot building on a 5.7-acre site to include 23 core classrooms, a storm shelter, library/media center, maker space, cafetorium, and gymnasium. The $24 million project is anticipated to begin in June 2020 with expected completion in time for the start of school in August 2021.
