Dallas ISD will set up a back-to-school hotline to answer concerns and questions that arise during the first week of classes, starting Monday, Aug. 25, the first day of school. The parent hotline will address school-related concerns and ease the confusion normally associated with the first week of school. Parents may call the hotline at (972) 925- 5437 (KIDS) on Monday, Aug. 25, through Friday, Aug. 29, to receive information about enrollment, bus routes, reduced school lunch applications, immunization requirements, school location, hours of operation and more. On Wednesday, Sept. 10, students from Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts will help celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s move to the Morton Meyerson Symphony Center. A free showcase, “We are Booker T … A Collaboration of the Arts,” will feature a visual arts exhibit by students and presentations by the school’s street mimes, West African dance troupe, mariachi ensemble, jazz singers, orchestra and choir. More than $27,000 was been donated via the GoFundMe website to support a G.B. Dealey Montessori and International Academy student’s family following an Aug. 24 fire at their home. According to the fund’s page on GoFundMe, the family lost nearly all of their possessions in the fire. Thursday, September 11, 2014 marks the 13-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon, and United Airlines Flight 93 which crashed in suburban Pennsylvania. Patriot Day serves as a remembrance of the lives lost on that September morning. On Patriot Day, the President directs that the American flag be flown at half-staff at individual American homes, at the White House, and on all U.S. government buildings and establishments, home and abroad.
