The Special Education Department will host its annual special education parent conference from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Pegasus Building located at 912 South Ervay St. Parents and guardians of students receiving special education services will receive support and information on topics of interest related to navigating educational opportunities and resources for students receiving special education services. The event will include informational sessions, sibling workshops and planned activities for children. Child care will be provided for families who need to have their children in attendance. After a spirited live auction and fundraising gala at the Dallas Zoo, the winning bidder paid $50,000 for the chance to name a newborn giraffe born Oct. 26. The money will go to conservation groups helping giraffes in the wild. The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has requested that the public be involved in the naming of the giraffe. The Dallas Zoo is asking the public’s vote in naming the male calf.Those interested, can vote in favor of one of three names suggested by the anonymous donor: Kopano – from Botswana, meaning “united” Usawa – “equality” in Swahili Shingo…

The South Dallas Super Bowl, a rivalry spanning more than 50 years between the South Dallas neighborhood’s Lincoln High School Tigers and James Madison High School Trojans, will take place at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 7, at the Cotton Bowl at Fair Park. Tickets are available at each school prior to the game and at the Cotton Bowl the day of the game. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Parking is $5 for the event.
