Calling all techies in grades K-12: Dallas ISD Health and Physical Education invites you to create and submit digital projects emphasizing health and fitness to the first-ever Tech Fest Media Fair. The media fair/contest is your chance to tell your peers and the public why you value health and fitness and how healthy habits make peoples’ lives better. Students who submit entries in the following categories could win tech gadgets such as pocket projectors, USB flash drives, wristband pedometers, and more. KERA profiled the effort at Cochran Elementary to make it the first of many schools to change its lanscape to not require a sprinkler system. Lilliana Navarro is entering her second year as a volunteer at Harry C. Withers Elementary, which is where her son goes to kindergarten. Navarro said she desires to learn the environment in which her son learns. Balancing her life as a working mother who works nights and volunteers a few times a week, Navarro is also the president of the Latin Advisory Committee at Withers. She said volunteering at her son’s school is priceless.
