The Dallas Museum of Art and the Dallas Arts District will host the superhero-themed Teen Takeover of Late Night’s at the DMA and the Summer Block Party tomorrow night. The festivities will take place from 6 p.m.–midnight. Families and members of the community are invited to have some fun and learn a thing or two in the public art museum. The Townview Pep Band will kick off the fun with a processional performance down the museum’s concourse. The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees recognized outstanding partners, volunteers, students and student groups at its May 2015 board meeting. The Trinity Chapter of The Links, Inc., established its “So SMAART” program to mentor girls in grades 4-8 to encourage them to pursue nontraditional careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. To date, the program has motivated nearly 1,000 Dallas-area girls. In addition, the chapter has awarded more than $100,000 in college scholarships. Summer learning sessions have begun, and the Dallas Independent School District urges motorists traveling near schools to help keep students safe by observing speed zones and using caution. Some campuses in Dallas ISD are currently hosting tutoring sessions and other student-centered activities, while others are beginning their summer school sessions. In addition, a large number of Dallas ISD campuses are participating in the annual summer meal effort. This means traffic near active campuses could include students. Drivers are encouraged to observe speed zones when flashing light signals are active, and to be aware of students walking near schools.
