The South Oak Cliff High School community came together again this holiday season to grant Christmas wishes to 72 elementary students from eight Dallas ISD schools. The Bear-y, Merry Christmas Party in a Winter Wonderland is an annual tradition that sees students and some staff at South Oak Cliff High School adopt elementary students and buy and collect presents on their Christmas wish list. Each elementary school in the South Oak Cliff feeder pattern was invited to nominate 10 deserving students to have their wish list come true. The Hub last week announced the four winners of the 2015 Principal of the Year award. As a reminder, the winners are: Julie Singleton, H.I. Holland Elementary School; Tracie Washington, Billy Earl Dade Middle School; Nakia Douglas, Barack Obama Male Leadership Academy; Tanya Shelton, Richard Lagow Elementary. Billy Earl Dade Middle School on Dec. 10 received a $25,000 equipment donation from Uncommon Athlete, which is a partnership between the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation and Rachel’s Challenge. Uncommon Athlete aims to use the power and platform of sports to change lives and reshape communities. In addition to presenting equipment such as helmets, bats, baseballs, and football gear, Cody Hodges, who played college football at Texas Tech University and speaks for Rachel’s Challenge, urged the Dade athletes to act with integrity and be role models. .
