Several Dallas ISD students will spend part of the Spring Break competing in the UIL Cross-Examination Debate State Meet at the University of Texas at Austin. By placing first or second in their respective UIL CX Debate District meets, 12 students from Jefferson, Law Magnet, Samuell, Skyline, and TAG high schools will travel to Austin on March 16 to compete in the UIL state competition, one of the largest debate tournaments in the United States. Sixth, seventh and eighth graders at Kennedy-Curry Middle School experienced a taste of the UniverSoul Circus in their school gymnasium. Thanks to a generous donation from Council Member Tennell Atkins, Kennedy-Curry received a sneak peak of several circus acts. UniverSoul Circus is a highly interactive combination of circus arts, theater, and music. The Circus will pop up their state-of-the art Big Top at Red Bird Mall from March 2 to March 19.  Check out this photo recap:

School libraries are meant to connect students to information, typically through written literature. The team at the School for the Talented and Gifted in Pleasant Grove (STAG) is enhancing that notion during Black History Month by transforming their library into a pop-up museum. Photos, artifacts, mementos and pieces of history are on display for students to experience during the month of February. Each display depicts an important era in Black history and culture.  The idea for the museum originated from STAG team members who visited the Green Book Exhibition in Irving earlier this year. Adelle Turner Elementary School recently hosted National African American Family Involvement Day (NAAFID), a day that is meant to celebrate and encourage African American families to maintain an active and ongoing role in their child’s academic life.
