Four Dallas Independent School District high school seniors have been named, by Mary Kay Inc. and the Junior League of Dallas (JLD), recipients of the third annual Women LEAD (Learn/Excel/Achieve Dream) Scholarship Program. The women’s organizations partnered to award $25,000 in scholarships to the female students last month. The 10 finalists from Emmett J. Conrad High School, South Oak Cliff High School, and Thomas Jefferson High School prepared a short speech based on the founding principles of Mary Kay Ash and the essay topic, “How do you make a difference in your community and what drives you to give back?”…

Texans are asked to do four things this week: sweat more, shop healthy, serve their communities and pledge to support a healthier Texas. A kickoff event on Monday, April 4, at Dallas ISD’s Thelma Elizabeth Page Richardson Elementary School fulfilled at least the first directive. The initiative is coordinated by nonprofit organization IT’S TIME TEXAS, which focuses on making a healthy lifestyle easier in the state. Dallas ISD, in conjunction with the Texas Organizing Project, will hold four information sessions for parents, students and the community about the recent changes in the immigration policy and will provide experts in immigration matters to answer questions and provide additional information. W.W. Samuell High School is hosting a health, wellness and financial fitness fair and 5K run this weekend that is open to the Pleasant Grove community.
