Trustee Lew Blackburn makes an all-star difference in District 5. Elected to the board in June of 2001, Blackburn leads his district of Oak Lawn, West Dallas, Wilmer, Hutchins and portions of East Oak Cliff. Blackburn was born in Fort Worth, where he attended elementary school. After moving to Dallas, he attended Oliver Wendell Holmes Middle School and graduated from Franklin D. Roosevelt High School. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a Master’s in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce, and a Doctor of Philosophy from The University of Texas at Austin. Trustee Jaime Resendez is leading the charge to make District 4 an outstanding team. Elected to the board in May of 2016, this graduate of Skyline High School represents Southeast Dallas, Seagoville and Balch Springs. Resendez is a U.S. Army combat veteran and attorney licensed to practice law by the State Bar of Texas and before the U.S. District Court in the Northern District of Texas. The son of Mexican immigrants, Resendez enlisted in the U.S. Army as an engineer before high school graduation and served for eight years, including a yearlong tour of duty in Baghdad, Iraq. The Dallas Cowboys face the Green Bay Packers on Sunday in a divisional playoff. Besides cheering for the hometown team, Skyline High School Principal Janice Lombardi wants to avoid becoming a Cheesehead for a day. Lombardi has a friendly wager with Rod Bohm, the principal of Southwest High School in the Green Bay Area Public School District.
