At its May 25 meeting, the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees recognized several student-athletes and their coaches for achievement this year. Marcus Garrett, a senior at Skyline High School, is the 2016-2017 Gatorade Texas Boys Basketball Player of the Year. The award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court. Sydney Gutwein, a seventh‐grade student from William B. Travis Academy/Vanguard for the Talented and Gifted, is among the students being honored by the Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) for their exceptional scores on the ACT or SAT.
