Arleen Averill, a first-grade teacher at Dallas ISD’s Leonides Gonzalez Cigarroa Elementary School, was recently named a Dallas Mavericks Classroom Champions Teacher of the Year. Averill said she became a teacher after seeing the relationships and connections her mother made with students as a teacher. “I love coming to these little smiling faces every day,” Averill said of her students. “They are just so excited to be here and so excited to see you in the morning, you can’t help but feel the same for them. The Adamson Scholarship Foundation awarded 14 graduating seniors from W.H. Adamson High School with $43,000 in scholarships at the school’s annual senior assembly on May 23. Adamson Scholarship Foundation Board Member Colleen Kelley handed out the awards that are for four years and range from $2,500 to $6,000 per year.  Students will receive the awards each year as long as they are enrolled full-time in higher education and meet grade requirements. Since its inception in 1947, the Adamson Scholarship Foundation has awarded $1.6 million in scholarships to more than 1,200 graduating seniors.

Achieve3000 has selected F.P. Caillet Elementary School as a “National Literacy Achievement” winner! This award is based on the exemplary implementation of the Achieve3000 program as well as exceptional literacy growth on campus. Additionally, fifth-graders Jonathan Ochoa Lazo and Jordan Powell were presented with the award for highest lexile reading level gains during the 2016-17 school year.

The Dual Language Scholar Award was given to Rosemont International Language Preparatory School students who completed the Secondary Dual Language Program at a special ceremony on June 1. The students were recognized for completing rigorous academic courses in both English and Spanish for three consecutive years. They now have the opportunity to continue the Dual Language Program in high school.
