A recent collaborative luncheon brought together Dallas ISD’s new Office of Racial Equity, Dallas Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation, and the City of Dallas’ Office of Equity and Human Rights to discuss equity issues. The Equity Luncheon was held at the Hall of State in Fair Park, and historical societies from several communities—Remembering Black Dallas, Dallas Mexican American Historical League, Dallas ISD’s American Indian Education Program, Dallas Jewish Historical Society—presented on their preservation, research and archival efforts. This was the first of many equity-focused collaborative events.

Dallas ISD is holding a job fair this Saturday to recruit bus drivers, MPV drivers (No CDL required) and bus monitors. Interested candidates should plan to attend the job fair this Saturday, August 25, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Leonard Center, (formerly the offices of Dallas County Schools) at 5151 Samuell Blvd. in Dallas. About a week before the first day of school on Aug. 20, school nurses from across Dallas ISD gathered to learn ways to stop bleeding in emergency situations with tourniquets and gauze. The “Stop the Bleed” training was designed to better protect students and campus staff. When seconds count and a life is on the line, Dallas ISD nurses will be ready to respond. The nurses practiced applying tourniquets – a device that stops the flow of blood – on each other. They also practiced techniques for packing open wounds (using a simulator) with gauze.
