W.H. Adamson Band Director Chris Green got the surprise of his life last month when the school gathered for a top-secret assembly during which Green learned he was a finalist for the Farmers Insurance Thank Americas Teachers grant where he could win $100,000. The band program at Adamson has grown from having 12 students to more than 200 in the past five years. The grant would purchase band equipment so that every student has an instrument to play. On Saturday, Sept. 26, alumni celebrated Sunset High School’s 90th anniversary with a commemorative program, refreshments, and plenty of conversations remembering how the high school was way back when. The ceremony also celebrated the school’s historic designation from the City of Dallas and State of Texas. “No matter if you were a class in the ‘40s, a class in the ‘60s, like me, or the kids today, we just have a bond that makes us family,” said Carol Brown, who graduated Sunset in ’67. “I’m glad to come back to Sunset and see that bond still exists.” Watch the above…
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme at Harry Stone Montessori Academy is student-centered and teachers students to make connections from what their learning in the classroom and the real world. They learn to reflect and work better. The IB program also encourages students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, even with their differences, can also be right.
Dallas ISD provides an annual $200 stipend to district teachers and staff in their September paychecks to help them purchase supplies and materials for the school year. In total, 10,767 employees received $2,153,400 in September. The Hub asked Maria, a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School, to interview teachers at Robert E.
