Smart City Networks, a leading telecommunication provider for convention centers and meeting facilities, recently donated $10,000 to Maple Lawn Elementary to renovate the school’s soccer field. To celebrate the completion of the renovation, Maple Lawn Elementary staff took on students in a soccer game on Monday on the renovated field. Trustee Miguel Solis, Dallas City Councilman Adam Medrano, and Smart City Networks President Mark Haley were among the VIPs who joined staff and students in the soccer game. The Center for Digital Education has named Dallas ISD as a top school board/district in the nation for its use of technology. Dallas ISD was ranked among the top 10 large school districts in the survey. Now in its 12th year, the Digital School Districts Survey Awards recognize exemplary use of technology by school boards and districts. “This award is recognition and confirmation that Dallas ISD is doing good things with technology in the classroom and in communications within the district,” said Bob Moore, Dallas ISD Chief Technology Officer. More than 150 students at Hope Medrano Elementary School were treated on Friday to a reading celebration with WWE stars. WWE and nonprofit First Book hosted the celebration to promote reading. WWE Superstar Sin Cara, WWE Divas Paige, Lana, Naomi and WWE announcer Lillian Garcia wowed students at the school. Medrano Elementary Principal Dr. Vincent Garcia said the school’s emphasis on early literacy made it a perfect choice for a wrestler-sized reading celebration.
