October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. To increase the public’s awareness of domestic violence, the city and school district are joining forces to provide education and activities to get people involved in prevention. Statistics supplied by the Dallas Domestic Violence Taskforce indicate that nearly 20 people in the U.S. are physically abused by an intimate partner every minute with a sometimes deadly toll on families, children and communities. This week was busy across the district, including visits from Pulitzer Prize winners, former Dallas Cowboys players, and state education leaders. Students at the Conrad High School Global Academy, one of Dallas ISD’s seven new collegiate academies, enjoyed a picture perfect afternoon with some of the nation’s best photojournalists. Five Pulitzer Prize-winning photographers and a photographer who won an International Women in Media award met with students to provide insights and stories from their incredible careers.
