Conrad High School’s Jorge Bahena, Trishna Biswa and Karla Bocanegra won Saturday’s Cooking Up Change competition with their Crispy Chicken Tender Wrap, Sassy Italian Corn and Banana Delight menu. The United States Navy Recruiting Command City Outreach Program had their 2017 Dallas Area Regional SeaPerch Underwater Robotics Challenge at Alfred J. Loos Natatorium. Competing with other school districts, Dallas ISD students built their own underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV). Though this project, students learn engineering concepts, problem solving, teamwork, and technical applications. Students build the ROV from a kit comprised of low-cost, easily accessible parts, following a curriculum that teaches basic engineering and science concepts with a marine engineering theme.

Recognized for their work in Computer Science Education, the Dallas ISD STEM Department has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the DFW Alliance of Technology and Women (DFW*ATW) through their GREATMINDS program (Girls Reaching for Education About Technology and Moving in New Directions for Success)! This generous grant will be used to provide training and stipends for the sponsors of after school coding clubs at ten elementary campuses. The clubs will meet once a week for 10 weeks this spring. Five students at Carter High School have received full-ride scholarships to attend Texas Christian University. The five seniors were awarded the TCU Community Scholarships, each valued at more than $250,000, at a ceremony on Thursday. Two of the recipients, Nahjae and Tahjae Selby, are twin sisters. The other recipients are Deanna Harper, Rickey Perry and Patricia Smith. Each of the recipients had a chance to say a few words of thanks, and most broke down in happy tears.
