William L. Cabell Elementary School students have gone wild. Specifically, the students received endangered species adoption kits thanks to a donation by Serena Simmons Connolly on Dec. 14. Dallas ISD’s Food and Child Nutrition Services Department will offer students 18 years and under (or special needs students up to age 21), free meals during the winter break. The program aims at providing students nutritious meals even during their vacation. Meals will be served Friday, Dec. 22 and Tuesday, Jan. 2 through Friday, Jan. 5, with a morning snack from 8 to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to noon. It was a chilly Saturday morning, as students started to arrive at the parking lot behind Emmett J. Conrad High School. They came from Conrad and Hillcrest High Schools to conquer the trash-filled Conrad Pond. Members of two chapters of The Environmental League came together to begin the clean-up of the pond, which is an overflow area of White Rock creek. Seventy students came to make a difference, to start the process to reclaim the area from the trash and debris currently filling it.
