Dallas ISD held a special ceremony to celebrate 4,600 students in grades 7–12 who have demonstrated academic excellence. More than 600 students attended the Scholars Recognition Ceremony at Ellis Davis Field House. The event celebrated students who have met the college and career readiness level on the PSAT, SAT or ACT, or have scored in the 95th percentile on the STAAR. Students received pins and cords celebrating their accomplishments. “We are hoping beyond the recognition piece of it, this will help motivate students on their path through determination,” said Mitch Morken, Director of Advanced Academic Services. The Rotary Club of Dallas invites nominations from all district schools for its annual Service Above Self Teacher Awards. To call attention to the importance of service contributed by teachers, the organization will award up to $10,000 in cash awards and gifts to the selected teachers. The award is designed to recognize teachers who: perform over and above their job descriptions in ways that benefit the community, at-risk and disadvantaged students; demonstrate selfless conduct for the benefit of others; plan classroom instruction that reflects innovation and creativity; The deadline to apply is Mon., April 16, 2018. Dallas ISD students with visual impairments participated in a special beeping egg hunt on Thursday, March 29. The event, which was coordinated by the Dallas ISD Special Education Vision Department, used special eggs that beep so students could find them more easily. In addition to the beeping egg hunt, students enjoyed dying easter eggs, cookie decorating, and more. Watch the above video to learn more.
