From offering advice to players and coaches in the parking lot after games to recruiting college scouts to check out district players, Roger B. Brown is a legend in the Dallas ISD baseball and sports community. Brown was the first full-time Black sportswriter hired by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram who went onto host a sports radio show on KKDA-AM until 2012. Israel Rivera, principal of School of Business and Management at Townview, was recently recognized by the national organization Bilingual VIDA Bilingüe. The non-profit recognizes the importance of bilingualism and bilingual education across the country to help create global leaders among the next generation. Rivera received the William Pulte Innovative Leader of the Year award by VIDA Bilingual for his leadership and championship for instilling bilingualism among native English-speakers and English Language Learners. Siemens today announced it will launch a laptop donation program, the latest company initiative to address equity in underserved communities. Siemens chose the Dallas Independent School District’s Young Men’s Leadership Academy (YMLA) at Fred F. Florence Middle School as the inaugural recipient.
