Board of Trustees to review employment of superintendent

The Dallas ISD Board of Trustees today is holding a special meeting to consider and take possible action regarding the employment of Superintendent Mike Miles. The meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. in the Ada L. Williams Auditorium, 3700 Ross Ave. The board is expected to retire to a closed session for discussion. Any action will be taken in open session. Study: Dallas ISD high poverty schools are improving

Dallas ISD has more high performing, high poverty elementary schools than any other urban school district in Texas, according to a new study outlined in a news conference on Thursday. Additionally, the study from Children at Risk, a Texas-based non-profit, shows that Dallas ISD’s high performing, high poverty schools are improving from year to year. Early voting continues through May 1 for Board of Trustees election

Three Dallas ISD Board of Trustees seats are up for votes in the May 9 election: District 1, District 3 and District 9. Early voting is open and runs through Friday, May 1. Incumbent District 1 Trustee Elizabeth Jones is not seeking re-election. Edwin Flores and Kyle Renard are vying for the District 1 spot. Incumbent District 3 Trustee Dan Micciche faces challenger David Lewis in that race. Incumbent District 9 Trustee Bernadette Nutall faces challenger Damarcus Offord for that spot. Dade Middle School to receive additional support as ACE campus

Dallas ISD announced today that Billy Earl Dade Middle School will receive significantly more support next year by naming it as an ACE (Accelerating Campus Excellence) school beginning in 2015–16. Dade will join six other schools previously designated as ACE campuses. The addition of Dade follows strong positive interest in the ACE concept from members of the community and a high level of interest from district educators.
